A Riyadh district faced repeated wet-well blockages across fourteen lift stations, each requiring an emergency crew and averaging 2.3 callouts per station per month.

The challenge

Rag accumulation on legacy closed impellers caused frequent blockages, with emergency callouts averaging 2.3 per station per month and occasional overflow risk during peak flow.

The solution

Fourteen stations were retrofitted with SX-200 submersible pumps on the existing rail systems, avoiding civil works. Level control was migrated to the telemetry platform with per-station alarm thresholds.

The results

Blockage callouts fell 71% over the following twelve months. Specific energy consumption dropped 19% against the pre-retrofit baseline. No overflow events were recorded during the monitoring period.

Keys to success

Retrofitting onto the existing rail systems avoided civil works entirely, which is what kept fourteen stations inside one budget year. Migrating level control to telemetry at the same time meant the benefit could be measured rather than asserted.
