Dewatering, tailings and water that has to be accounted for
A mine moves more water than ore. Pit dewatering runs whether or not anything is being extracted, tailings storage is a permanent water balance rather than a disposal step, and in most jurisdictions every cubic metre entering and leaving now has to be accounted for.
